Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways Student Rights and Responsibilities
- The student is responsible for following the Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways (OGTP) exactly to ensure transfer of all coursework. The student should work closely with their academic advisor as the pathway templates are not substitutes for advising.
- The OGTPs include general education courses required to complete the Ohio Transfer Module (OTM) and pre-major/beginning major courses known as Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs).
- Each OGTP contains a program of study through which students should be able to earn an associate’s degree. Some courses may have pre-requisites that students must also complete, especially in math and science areas.
- Not every Ohio community college or public university offers every OGTP. A list (currently under development) of which OGTPs are offered at each institution can be found by searching by institution on this website. Additionally, while the OGTPs offered cover many majors, community colleges and universities could have other available majors or have articulation agreements in programs outside of the OGTPs.
- Completion of an OGTP does not guarantee admission into a particular academic program at a public university.
- Students may not necessarily complete all general education requirements through the completion of an OGTP. Additional general education coursework may be required, such as upper level general education courses, but it should not prevent students from completing their bachelor’s degree in approximately 60 additional hours.
- Some bachelor’s degree programs require more than four years of full-time study even for native students. Therefore, once a student completes their associate degree program in a designated OGTP and transfers to a bachelor’s degree program, it may take more than an additional two years of full-time study to complete the program. Students should work with their academic advisor to determine which programs, such as Engineering, are included.
- The requirements within each OGTP may change over time. Students should follow the OGTP that is in effect upon their initial enrollment in their associate degree-granting institution. An OGTP is valid for a minimum of five years from a student’s initial date of enrollment at their associate degree-granting institution and five years at their transfer baccalaureate degree-granting institution, unless such a policy jeopardizes the institutional program accreditation status or exceeds individual course lifespan. Institutions should act in good faith for students who do not complete their OGTP within this timeframe and offer an appeals process for those students. Students may opt to complete their degree under the most recent version of an OGTP but must comply with any and all new requirements set forth.

 There are three distinct types of legislatively-created two-year institutions in Ohio: community college, state community college, and technical college. However, here the term “community college” is used generically to refer to all three types of two-year public institutions.
