The Chancellor’s Award

Chancellor John Carey, ninth Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, created the Chancellor’s Award as a way to recognize exemplary students, faculty, and administration that have gone above and beyond the call of duty in using the power of higher education to impact the communities where they are located and for the greater good of all of Ohio.

Chancellor John Carey and the Ohio Department of Higher Education presented Erik Threet II with the Chancellor’s inaugural Excellence in Student Journalism Commendation for his efforts to bring greater awareness to AVM through his work at WOUB, and to preserve Wellston High School student Austin Milliken’s memory through his reporting.

Denise Justice is the recently retired superintendent of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction's Ohio Central School System. Her leadership helped thousands of inmates complete the education and training needed for success upon their release.
