The connection between the availability of high-quality human resources and the attainment of economic development goals is increasingly important to Ohio. States that lead the charge in connecting these resources and goals do so by developing strategies, education, and training infrastructures that include the dynamic nature of regional economies and labor markets.

In pursuit of similar opportunities that allow Ohio to construct an even more resilient workforce ecosystem, this regional meeting has been scheduled to discuss equipment allocations for the campuses in the region that mirror the occupational skill needs articulated by our economic development and business sector partners. Between $8 million and $10 million will be allocated toward this initial process, which will include an open, ongoing application process that focuses on regionally submitted proposals involving partnerships between universities, community colleges, Ohio Technical Centers, local economic development partners, and business representatives.

The meeting will include an overview of the goals for this work, including the core components that will be required for regional equipment applications. This process is the first in a number of steps the Ohio Board of Regents will be implementing over the coming months in an effort to develop statewide coordinated and efficient workforce delivery mechanisms.

Gary Cates, Senior Vice Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents; Bradley Ebersole, President of Washington State Community College; Chad Brown, Provost and Executive VP at Zane State College; Brian Hill, Ohio House of Representatives; Kerry Metzger, Tuscarawas County Commissioner; and other higher education and workforce officials from Ohio.
