Principal Clinical Practice

The Ohio Board of Regents recently named a Blue Ribbon Panel to explore, redefine and recommend ways Ohio principal preparation programs, especially focusing on clinical components, can better meet the complex issues facing Ohio's schools. The Panel has prepared the recommendation, Principal Preparation Programs: Ensuring High Quality Leadership for Ohio's Schools, to present to the Chancellor.

PRINCIPAL CLINICAL PRACTICE BLUE RIBBON PANEL STATEMENT OF PURPOSE 9.20.10

The Ohio Board of Regents, under the leadership of the Chancellor, will convene a Blue Ribbon Panel to explore and examine best practices in principal and leadership preparation. The purpose is to redefine what we mean by leadership development, and then to recommend ways in which our principal preparation programs can meet higher standards.

Currently, Principal Licensure Programs undergo national review, however, the Ohio Board of Regents would like to augment the national standards and address unique and critical needs in Ohio's schools. House Bill 1 created the opportunity to hold this dialogue with leaders in the field.

By May, 2011, the Blue Ribbon Panel will present a report to the Chancellor that will include recommendations for strengthening Principal Standards, based upon best practices in the field and clinical experiences that align with exemplary practices in residency programs. Additionally, these recommendations will enable future partnership possibilities with the Ohio Department of Education related to principal evaluation strategies.
