Welcome to the Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP)
The Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP) provides financial assistance to Ohio students enrolled for at least half-time study (or accepted for enrollment) in an approved Ohio nurse education program. NEALP provides funding for nurses who intend to serve as instructors as well as students who intend to serve as nurses after graduation.
Before applying for a Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP) loan, please be sure to complete the following steps:
1. Complete the FAFSA
To create a new NEALP account, you must first complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current academic year and submitted it to the United States Department of Education (USDOE). If you have not yet completed your FAFSA, please go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to do so. The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) receives this information from the USDOE 3 days after you submit your FAFSA, and will store your information in the ODHE database.
2. Create NEALP Web Account (New Users Only)
To request a NEALP account, click the "Request NEALP Account" button in the left column. If your FAFSA is on file with ODHE, you will have the option to create your NEALP account. If it is not on file, please try again in a few days. If you submitted your FAFSA more than 7 business days ago, please contact the NEALP Program Manager at email@example.com.
If your FAFSA is on file with ODHE and the email address you enter is valid, you will receive an email with a secure link to confirm your email address. Click on the link and submit the required information to complete your account creation.
3. Log In to NEALP Website
Once you have a NEALP account you may log in to access it. Log in and click on the “Apply for NEALP” button to complete an application for the current application period or, if applicable, return to a saved application.
The NEALP application period for academic year runs from January 1 to July 15.
