TRIO Tracking (TR) File Revised June 7, 2004

File Description

The TRIO Tracking (TR) File contains one record for each student enrolled in a TRIO program.

Submission Schedule

The TR file can be submitted anytime throughout the year.

Student Identifier Enter the federally assigned Social Security Number (SSN) whenever possible. If the SSN is unavailable, enter another identifier which uniquely relates to this student. If the Student Identifier is not a SSN, it can be entered in the TR file, but the student's enrollments cannot be tracked. Alphanumeric

Institution Assigned Identifier Switch Enter "Y" if the Student Identifier is not a federally assigned Social Security Number (SSN).  If the Student Identifier is a federally assigned Social Security Number, enter "N".  Alphabetic

High School Code Enter the code of the high school from which the student graduated or will graduate from the IRN verification tableFor GED certificate students, enter "111111."  For home schooled students, enter "222222."  If a code is not available for the desired high school, enter "333333."  HEI would strongly recommend the use of viable IRN codes if they are available through the IRN verification table link.  Numeric

Graduation Year Enter the year this student graduated, or will graduate from high school.  Educational Opportunity or Veterans Upward Bound Programs may enter "UNKN" for this field.  All other programs must enter a valid graduation year. Numeric

If this student is a first generation college student, enter "Y".  If this student is not a first generation college student, enter "N".
