COLUMBUS, OH, March 27, 2013 – Thomas M. Humphries, of Girard, was appointed to the Ohio Board of Regents by Gov. John Kasich this month. His term begins immediately and ends on Sept. 20, 2018. The nine-member board advises the chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents.
Humphries has served as the president and Chief Executive Officer of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber since April 1997. He oversees the operational functions for the organization and initiates, leads and facilitates the overall strategic plan of economic development and member service issues. Under his leadership, the Regional Chamber has enjoyed unprecedented growth in both the total number of members and membership services provided. He was also instrumental in securing funding for the formation of the Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education, which works to foster post-secondary success and career readiness.
“I am happy to have Mr. Humphries on the Board and I look forward to working with him,” said Dr. Stephanie Davidson, interim chancellor of the Board of Regents. “His business expertise and perspective will be valuable to the Board and our agency.”
Prior to joining the Chamber, Humphries was a general manager for Sprint’s Ohio East region. He is a principal of Data Voice Systems Review Inc., which audits, analyzes and implements telecommunications and associate services for companies across North America. His experience in the telecommunications industry spans 40 years.
Humphries is a founding member of Team Northeast Ohio, and serves on the boards of several local, regional and state community and economic development organizations. He also received a governor’s appointment to the board of Partnership for Continued Learning in Columbus, a group that integrates Ohio’s educational, economic and workforce development efforts into a lifelong learning system in order to achieve educational attainment and economic competitiveness.
Humphries graduated from Youngstown State University and received a certificate in executive management from Duke University. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife, Cathy, have two children and two grandchildren.

The Ohio Board of Regents is the state agency that coordinates higher education in Ohio. The agency is directed by its Chancellor, who is a member of the Governor of Ohio's cabinet. The Chancellor, with the advice of the nine-member Board of Regents, provides policy guidance to the Governor and the Ohio General Assembly, advocates for the University System of Ohio and carries out state higher education policy.
