COLUMBUS, OH, Nov. 14, 2012 – The Ohio Board of Regents, at its regular meeting on Nov. 12, appointed Regent Vinny Gupta to be interim chair of the Board.
Gupta will fill the role vacated by outgoing Regent James Tuschman. Gupta’s interim term will run through March 31, 2013.
“I’m happy to serve as interim chair for the board, and I am eager to see where our recent efforts in commercialization and college completion will take us as we move into 2013,” Gupta said.
Tuschman, who earlier this year championed the Board’s recommendation to ban smoking on all University System of Ohio campuses, has served on the Board of Regents since 2004, when he was appointed by then-Governor Bob Taft. During his time on the Board, Tuschman twice served as its chair.
Tuschman is one of three Regents leaving the Board at the end of this year. Other outgoing Board members are James Patterson, who was appointed to the Board in 2005 and has served as its Vice Chair and Chair of the Shared Services Subcommittee; and Dr. Walter Reiling Jr., who also was appointed by then-Gov. Taft in 2005. Dr. Reiling served two terms as secretary of the Board, and co-chaired the Board’s University System Communications Working Group.
