OhioMeansJobs Introduces Phone App and the University System of Ohio reveals OhioMeansInternships.com Website


COLUMBUS, OH, Jan. 23, 2012 – A new phone app for OhioMeansJobs.com and a new website, OhioMeansInternships, were introduced today at the STEMM Scholar Showcase hosted by the University System of Ohio at COSI.

The new OhioMeansJobs mobile phone application allows Ohioans to search, save and apply for jobs from their iPhone, iPad or Android device. The app combines unique data from the state of Ohio with advanced search tools and filter technology from Monster. Job seekers can use the app to view their resumes and search tens of thousands of job openings by job title, keyword and location.

“The OhioMeansJobs mobile app makes finding your next job faster and easier,” said Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Director Michael Colbert. “The app and website combine to provide the information, tips, specialized search tools and targeted exposure that sets a job seeker apart from the pack.”

Developed through a partnership with Monster, the mobile app also aggregates internship openings posted on nearly any website in Ohio.

Internships should also be easier to locate with reveal of the new website OhioMeansInternships.com.

OhioMeansInternships.com will help students find internships and experiential learning opportunities. The new website brings together the existing online career and educational assets of Ohio and augments them with Monster career services, especially as it ties in with OhioMeansJobs.

“Our goal is to educate students and move them from the classroom to the quality jobs in the workforce as quickly as possible,” Chancellor Petro said. “This website will help students find internships that they can use to gain experience and hone their skills as well has help them identify career pathways.”

The OhioMeansInternships.com website will:

·         Increase Ohio’s talent capital by:

o    Enrolling and graduating more students in Ohio

o    Improving the ability for Ohio citizens to connect education to their career choices

o    Increasing student participation in internships

o    Attracting and retaining talent in Ohio

·         Move to a student-centric approach for career and educational direction

·         Promote awareness of Ohio higher education internship opportunities

The website is more than a listing of internships; it serves as a comprehensive solution that will provide information useful during the students’ educational planning stages. One of the features is a portal page specific to students looking at internships. The portal includes analytics to identify career pathways and smarter career choices that work for all segments of the student job seeker population.

Employers will have the opportunity to search for student talent, as well as the ability to post internship positions from the student portal.
